WSU Athletics Unveils New Hall of Fame Entrance To Legacy Atrium

DETROIT -- The Wayne State University Department of Athletics recently unveiled its renovated Hall of Fame area (Legacy Atrium) as well as a new entrance to the David L. Holmes WSU Athletics Hall of Fame, which was renamed in honor of the first coach and Director of Athletics.

During Homecoming weekend, the WSU Department of Athletics recognized the 50th class of inductees into the Hall of Fame bringing the total membership to 286 individuals and one team out of over 10,000 student-athletes since athletics were formed at Detroit Junior College in 1917-18 by David L. Holmes.

"The Legacy Atrium represents more than 100 years of history, tradition, and opportunity at Wayne State Athletics," remarked WSU Director of Athletics Erika Wallace.  "Our story is deeply connected to the city of Detroit, a city defined by resilience, determination, and breaking barriers.  Wayne State Athletics has an incredible story to tell, one rooted in creating opportunities and opening doors for generations of student-athletes. This space honors the people and accomplishments that have shaped Wayne State Athletics into what it is today, while inspiring future generations of Warriors to build upon that legacy.  By bringing our history to life, we remind our current and future student-athletes that they are part of something much bigger than themselves."

The renovated Legacy Atrium will serve to bring the Warrior community together for meetings, events and special programming, while celebrating the proud tradition of Wayne State Athletics.  The interactive digital touchscreens showcase achievements across Wayne State history beyond Hall of Fame inductees, including championships, all-Americans, etc.  By connecting our past with our future, the space is designed to inspire current and future Warriors to build on the legacy of Wayne State Athletics.

"One of the greatest responsibilities we have as institutional leaders is to ensure that the stories of those who have contributed to our success are never lost," commented WSU Deputy Director of Athletics Dr. Candice Turner.  "The Legacy Atrium allows us to celebrate not only extraordinary athletic accomplishments, but also the individuals whose experiences, sacrifices, and contributions are woven into the fabric of this university.  I believe there is tremendous power in making people feel seen, valued, and remembered.  This space is a meaningful expression of that commitment and a reminder that recognition is not simply about celebrating excellence, but honoring the people behind it.".
