Wayne State falls 5-2 to Winona State in battle of the Warriors.

ROSEMONT, Ill. -- The Wayne State University softball squad (4-3 overall) concluded play at the 2026 Lewis Dome Invitational with a thrilling 11-7 triumph over Quincy University (2-10 overall) on a walk-off grand slam in the bottom of the 10th inning by junior pitcher Sydney Long.  In the battle of Warriors, Wayne State fell 5-2 to Winona State (7-1 overall) in the nightcap.

WSU battled in the bottom of the frame as sophomore Kate DeWitt (Grand Blanc, Mich.) had a leadoff double and advanced to third on a fielding error.  Molly Hool followed with an RBI single to knot the game at 5-5.

QU plated the international tie-breaker (ITB) runner in the top of the eighth, before Sandles scored in the bottom of the inning after a sacrifice bunt by Near, and sacrifice fly by Bunch.

The Hawks again took the lead in the ninth as the ITB runner scored.  Long, who was WSU's ITB runner, crossed home plate on a one-out double by Molly Hool.

In the top of the 10th, Quincy had two pop outs sandwiched around a walk before a fielder's choice ended the threat.  With one out in the bottom of the 10th, Near walked on four pitches, while Bunch battled back from an 0-2 deficit to work a seven-pitch walk to load the bases.  Ahead 2-0 in the count, Long walloped the next offering just to the right of the 235 sign in centerfield for a walk-off grand slam.
