DETROIT -- The No. 20-ranked Wayne State University men's tennis team (5-1 overall) earned its second-straight victory over a ranked opponent, topping No. 23-ranked Tiffin University (5-2 overall) 5-2 on Wednesday, February 25, in the Doris J. & Donald L. Duchene, Sr. Athletic Facility.

The win marks the third in-region victory thus far for the Green and Gold, and is the second ranked win after the squad bested No. 20-Charleston 5-2 this past weekend.

HOW IT HAPPENED
DOUBLES
The Warriors posted a win in the No. 3 doubles position, as Sam Knowles (North Shields, Tyne and Wear, England / King's Priory School) and Tom Wasner (Altenholz, Germany / Friedrichsort Community School) collected a 6-3 win over Marlon Huber and Harry Senior.

The duo of George Day (Southampton, United Kingdom / Peter Symonds College) and Thomas Mathys (Grimisuat, Switzerland / ECCG - Martigny) lost its first doubles match of the spring season 6-2, to Lorenzo Perucchini and Romain Marionneau.

Luis Klaus (Brühl, Germany / Archbishop's St. Ursula gymnasium [TH Köln]) and Harry Forsyth (Wamberal, New South Wales, Australia / The McDonald College [Mississippi College]) continued to be a strong pairing, downing Martin Driesner and Jose Portillo 6-4 in the No. 1 position to clinch the doubles point.

Mathys was the next Warrior to collect a win, triumphing 6-3, 6-4 over Harry Senior in the No. 5 singles slot.

Klaus, in the No. 2 position, clinched the win for WSU after gutting a 6-2, 6-7 (7-9) 6-4 match against Martin Driesner that lasted over 2 hours and 30 minutes.

FROM HEAD COACH BRYAN MORROW
"It was a great win over a very strong top-25 Tiffin team.  Getting the doubles point proved to be really important, as it set us up and put us into a good position for singles.  We started strong in singles, I thought that we had really good looks at each of the positions.  Luis (Klaus) was huge for us again today, he and Harry (Forsyth) getting the win at No. 1 doubles and him clinching the match at No. 2 singles was outstanding.  I was once again very proud of my guys, able to get another top-25 win.  The chemistry that this team has is truly unmatched and they all support each other wonderfully."

UP NEXT
The men's tennis team will travel to Hilldsdale, Mich., to face Hillsdale College on Saturday, February 28, at 1:00 PM at the Margot V. Biermann Center.
