Men's Tennis Earns 6-1 win at Hillsdale

HILLSDALE, Mich. -- The No. 20-ranked Wayne State University men's tennis team (6-1 overall) earned a 6-1 road win over Hillsdale College (3-4 overall) on Saturday.

Wayne State is now 4-0 in matches against teams from the Midwest region, and 6-1 overall on the campaign.

HOW IT HAPPENED
DOUBLES
At the No. 1 position, the nationally-ranked pairing of Luis Klaus (Brühl, Germany / Archbishop's St. Ursula gymnasium [TH Köln]) and Harry Forsyth (Wamberal, New South Wales, Australia / The McDonald College [Mississippi College]) defeated Ellis Klanduch and Henry Hammond 6-4.

George Day (Southampton, United Kingdom / Peter Symonds College) and Thomas Mathys (Grimisuat, Switzerland / ECCG - Martigny) continued to see success in doubles action, posting a 6-4 triumph over HC's Samuel Plys and Ryan Papazov in the No. 2 doubles slot.

In the third doubles spot, Sam Knowles (North Shields, Tyne and Wear, England / King's Priory School) was paired with Benjamin Hill (Düren, North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany / Burgau-Gymnasium).  The WSU duo defeated Patrick Cretu and Jackson Clements 6-3.

SINGLES
Day found himself in the win column for singles as well, with an impressive 6-0, 6-3 win over Papazov at the No. 1 singles flight.

Klaus continues his quality season in singles, besting Hammond 6-4, 6-1 in No. 2 singles.

Freshman Mathys keeps at his strong inaugural season with the Green and Gold, posting a 6-4, 6-1 win over Plys in the No. 3 singles slot.

Hill found success in singles as well, downing Klanduch 6-3, 6-4, as the pair battled in the No. 4 position.

Forsyth saw action in the No. 6 singles spot, going back-and-forth with Alex Cordero Lopez for a 6-7 (4-7), 7-6 (7-3), 10-7 victory.

Knowles fell in the No. 5 position 3-6, 6-7 (6-8) to Cretu.

UP NEXT
The men's tennis team returns to Detroit, Mich., tomorrow, March 1, to host Case Western Reserve at 9:00 AM inside the Duchene Athletic Facility.
