Men's Tennis Hands St. Thomas Aquinas its First Loss of Season, 5-2

ORLANDO, Fla. -- The No. 4-ranked Wayne State University men's tennis team (8-1 overall) posted a 5-2 triumph over St. Thomas Aquinas College (6-1 overall) in the squad's first match over Spring Break.

The Warriors have won their seventh-straight game, while handing the Spartans their first setback of the season.

Earlier today, the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) released its newest rankings, with the Warriors checking in as the No. 4-ranked team in the nation.  It marks the highest ranking that the men's tennis program has been ranked on the ITA Poll.

HOW IT HAPPENED

The Green and Gold swept the doubles matches to corral the first advantage of the contest.

At the top flight, the No. 11-ranked pairing of Harry Forsyth (Wamberal, New South Wales, Australia / The McDonald College [Mississippi College]) and Luis Klaus (Brühl, Germany / Archbishop's St. Ursula gymnasium [TH Köln]) downed STAC's duo of Henry Ronnberg and Theo Renoux 6-4.

George Day (Southampton, United Kingdom / Peter Symonds College) and Thomas Mathys (Grimisuat, Switzerland / ECCG - Martigny) collected a 7-6 triumph over the No. 20-ranked doubles team of Don Vinz Lominoque in the No. 2 doubles position.

WSU's duo of Tom Wasner (Altenholz, Germany / Friedrichsort Community School) and Sam Knowles (North Shields, Tyne and Wear, England / King's Priory School) nabbed a 6-2 win over Erik Victor Tauson and Ondrej Sramek in the No. 3 doubles spot.
