ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla. -- The No. 4-ranked Wayne State University men's tennis team (8-2 overall) fell 4-0 in a top-five contest with No. 3-ranked Flagler College (9-1 overall) on Friday.
HOW IT HAPPENED
DOUBLES
Flagler secured the doubles point after collecting wins at the No. 1 and No. 3 positions.
At the No. 1 slot,
Harry Forsyth (Wamberal, New South Wales, Australia / The McDonald College [Mississippi College]) and
Luis Klaus (Brühl, Germany / Archbishop's St. Ursula gymnasium [TH Köln]) fell 6-2 to Aly El Rafie and Filip Kana.
Tom Wasner (Altenholz, Germany / Friedrichsort Community School) and
Sam Knowles (North Shields, Tyne and Wear, England / King's Priory School) were bested 6-4 by Aniss Rafiq and Noah Paterson in the No. 3 spot.
George Day (Southampton, United Kingdom / Peter Symonds College) and
Thomas Mathys (Grimisuat, Switzerland / ECCG - Martigny) were tied-5 with Ilian Borlee and Simon Malis before the match went unfinished.
SINGLES
Klaus lost his first singles match of the spring season, falling to 19th-ranked Simon Malis 6-3, 6-3 at the No. 2 position.
At the third position, Mathys was bested by Ilian Borlee 6-1, 6-2.
Benjamin Hill (Düren, North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany / Burgau-Gymnasium) fell 6-3, 6-4 to Raphael Rousson in the No. 4 position.
Day, Wasner, and Forsyth all had matches that went unfinished.
