Men's Tennis Drops 5-2 Decision at No. 8-Embry-Riddle

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. -- The No. 4-ranked Wayne State University men's tennis team (8-4 overall) fell 5-2 at No. 8-ranked Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University (10-2 overall) on Sunday at the Crotty Tennis Complex.

HOW IT HAPPENED
DOUBLES
The Eagles won 2-of-3 doubles matches to claim the doubles point for a 1-0 advantage.

At the No. 1 doubles position, Luis Klaus (Brühl, Germany / Archbishop's St. Ursula gymnasium [TH Köln]) and Harry Forsyth (Wamberal, New South Wales, Australia / The McDonald College [Mississippi College]) fell 6-3 to the 23rd-ranked duo of Marc Mail and Frederic Tu.

George Day (Southampton, United Kingdom / Peter Symonds College) and Thomas Mathys (Grimisuat, Switzerland / ECCG - Martigny) nabbed a 6-1 win over Joao Morgado and Joshua Nuyts in the No. 2 spot.

In the third doubles slot, Sam Knowles (North Shields, Tyne and Wear, England / King's Priory School) and Tom Wasner (Altenholz, Germany / Friedrichsort Community School) were bested 6-4 by Mason Cisco and Manuel Lanteri.

SINGLES
Klaus tied the contest at 1-1 after a dominant 6-1, 6-0 win over No. 31-ranked Enrico Rosellini in the No 2 position.

Freshman Mathys continues to have a strong rookie campaign, posting a 6-3, 3-6, 6-2 triumph over Manuel Lanteri.

Day fell in a hard-fought match at the No. 1 singles position, being bested in three sets (6-7 (3-7), 7-6 (8-6), 10-3) by No. 28-ranked Marc Mail.

Benjamin Hill (Düren, North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany / Burgau-Gymnasium) also suffered a three-set defeat in the No. 4 position, falling 1-6, 6-4, 2-6 to Joshua Nuyts.

Forsyth was downed 6-4, 7-6 (7-3) by No. 34-ranked Joao Morgado at the No. 5 singles position.

Freshman Warren Gunnar (Ypsilanti, Mich. / Ann Arbor Huron) fell 6-3, 6-0 in the No. 6 slot to Frederic Tu.

The men's tennis team will face its fourth-straight top-15 opponent in Rollins College on Tuesday, March 17.
