Men's Tennis Concludes Spring Break with 5-2 Defeat at Saint Leo

SAINT LEO, Fla. -- The Wayne State University men's tennis team (8-6 overall) fell 5-2 at Saint Leo University (8-2 overall) on Wednesday to wrap its Spring Break trip.

ITA RANKINGS UPDATE
Coincidentally, while the match was in progress, the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) released its weekly poll.  The Green and Gold are viewed as the No. 10-ranked team. while the Lions check in ranked 11th.  In singles, WSU's Luis Klaus (Brühl, Germany / Archbishop's St. Ursula gymnasium [TH Köln]) moved up to 33rd.  For Saint Leo, Jose David Segovia Perez (12th), Dylan Andrianaly (20th), and Eduardo Cohen (50th) all received rankings.  Looking at doubles, the Wayne State pairing of Klaus and Harry Forsyth (Wamberal, New South Wales, Australia / The McDonald College [Mississippi College]) is the No. 15-ranked duo, while George Day (Southampton, United Kingdom / Peter Symonds College) and Thomas Mathys (Grimisuat, Switzerland / ECCG - Martigny) are 35th.  For SLU, Jose David Segovia Perez and Kodai Kato are the third-ranked duo nationally, while Shay Sarfati and Eduardo Cohen are 50th.

HOW IT HAPPENED
DOUBLES
At the No. 1 doubles position, Klaus and Forsyth were bested 6-3 by Kodai Kato and Jose David Segovia.

Day and Mathys fell 6-4 to Cohen and Sarfati at the No. 2 doubles slot.

Benjamin Hill (Düren, North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany / Burgau-Gymnasium) and Tom Wasner (Altenholz, Germany / Friedrichsort Community School) were leading 5-3 against Romain Malhomme and Dylan Andrinaly prior to the match going unfinished.

SINGLES
Wasner posted a 6-2, 6-4 win over Malhomme at the No. 5 singles position.

Forsyth, at the No. 6 singles spot, earned a 2-6, 7-6, 10-4 over SLU's Mahit Mekala.

At the top singles flight, Day fell 6-3, 6-0 to Andrianaly.

Klaus was defeated by Jose David Segovia 6-0, 6-3 at the No. 2 singles spot.

Mathys competed against Cohen at the third singles, falling 6-4, 6-2.

Hill fell 6-0, 7-6 (7-5) at the No. 4 position to Kato.

UP NEXT
The Warriors will compete in their first GLIAC match next week, as the squad hits the road to take on Davenport University on Saturday, March 28, at 11:00 AM.
