GRAND RAPIDS -- The No. 16-ranked Wayne State University men's tennis team (9-6, 1-0 GLIAC) earned its first conference win of the year, defeating Davenport University (8-12, 1-3 GLIAC) 7-0 on the road.

HOW IT HAPPENED
DOUBLES
The Warriors struck first, winning all three doubles matches for the early lead in the contest.

At the No. 1 position, Harry Forsyth (Wamberal, New South Wales, Australia / The McDonald College [Mississippi College]) and Luis Klaus (Brühl, Germany / Archbishop's St. Ursula gymnasium [TH Köln]) captured a 6-4 win over DU's top pairing of Adrian Constantin and Rudiger Dusselberg.

George Day (Southampton, United Kingdom / Peter Symonds College) and Thomas Mathys (Grimisuat, Switzerland / ECCG - Martigny) battled with Bennet Dozeman and Jaden Bender at the No. 2 doubles slot, besting the Panther duo 7-5.

Tom Wasner (Altenholz, Germany / Friedrichsort Community School) and Benjamin Hill (Düren, North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany / Burgau-Gymnasium) posted a 6-4 triumph over Reuben Bakker and Jan Stolin.

SINGLES
After falling in the first set 6-2, Day was a man on a mission, as he fired back to triumph in the ensuing two sets 6-0, 6-3 over Stolin in the top flight.

Klaus impressed in his first set, with a 6-0 trounce over Constantin.  The DU student-athlete responded by winning the second set 6-4 and was leading 3-1 in the third, before the Warrior tallied five of the next six games to post the win in the second singles slot.

Freshman Mathys kept his strong rookie outing going, besting Bender 6-4, 6-3 in the No. 3 singles position.

Hill saw action at the fourth singles slot and earned his seventh victory of the spring, topping Dusselberg 6-4, 6-3.

Wasner tallied a notable 6-4, 6-3 win over Davenport's Bakker, as the two competed at the fifth singles flight.

Forsyth, in the No. 6 position, nabbed a 6-2, 3-6, 10-7 win over Dozeman.

FROM HEAD COACH BRYAN MORROW
"Getting the sweep was a great way to not only start conference play, but to get back to our winning ways as well.  Getting back in the win column will build some confidence for our guys as we move forward in the season.  Davenport is a really tricky and talented team, so we were very happy to get the win."

UP NEXT
The Warriors will dip out of conference action, as the squad hosts in-region foe UIndy on Friday, April 3, at 2:00 PM in the Duchene Athletic Facility on the campus of Wayne State.
