Women's Tennis Hosts Oakland in Motown

DETROIT -- The No. 44-ranked Wayne State University women's tennis team (3-4 overall) welcomes Division 1 Oakland University (4-8 overall) on Saturday, March 21, in the Duchene Athletic Facility at 12:00 PM.

LAST TIME OUT
The Green and Gold were last in action against No. 2-ranked Barry University (now ranked first nationally).  The Warriors fell 7-0 to the national powerhouse to conclude their Spring Break trip in Florida.

SCOUTING THE GOLDEN GRIZZLIES
OU is 4-8 thus far in the campaign, collecting wins over Northwood (4-3), Dayton (5-2), Redlands (5-2), and Milwaukee (4-3).

During the fall, Oakland student-athlete Martyna Piechowicz captured the Horizon League Fall Singles Championship.  Members of the Oakland women's tennis squad competed at Wayne State's doubles tournament as well, with OU doubles teams posting a 4-5 ledger.

David Brown is at the helm for Oakland, helping the squad to a 16-32 record since taking over prior to the 2023-24 season.

ITA RANKINGS UPDATE
The Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) released its newest rankings earlier this week, with the Warriors checking in as the No. 44-ranked squad in the nation.  In singles, Malak Arafat (Alexandria, Egypt) is ranked 35th, while Martyna Szpakowska (Gdansk, Poland) is ranked 45th.  On the doubles side, Szpakowska and Justine Beaulieu (Montreal, Que.) are the No. 46-ranked duo nationally.
