LIMA, Ohio -- Headlined by freshman
Sonia Bayahya (Casablanca, Morocco / Lycée Français International Louis-Massignon) claiming Medalist Honors, the Wayne State University women's golf team placed third at the Walsh/Tiffin Spring Christmas Classic on Friday. Bayahya carded a five-under 139 (71-68) while her squad turned in a 28-over 604 (307-297) among the eight-team field.
Bayahya became the sixth medalist in program history, the fourth freshman to do so, and first of any grade since rookie
Claudia Portillo on Sept. 24, 2024 at the Warrior Invitational, 563 days ago. Bayahya's two-round total of 139 is Wayne State's season low and just three strokes off the program record set by Maisarah Hezri nearly three years ago. As for Bayahya's round-two 68, that marks the squad's first 18-hole score in the 60s this season and is also three shots off Hezri's school record.
