Men's Tennis Sweeps Roosevelt 7-0 in Final Home Match of Regular Season

DETROIT -- The No. 18-ranked Wayne State University men's tennis team (12-7, 4-0 GLIAC) swept Roosevelt University (6-13, 1-5 GLIAC) 7-0 in the squad's final home match of the regular season.

The squad honored graduate student Luis Klaus (Brühl, Germany / Archbishop's St. Ursula gymnasium [TH Köln]) before the match for all that he contributed to the WSU men's tennis team over his two years donning the Green and Gold.  Klaus has been instrumental in the team's success this season, compiling a 21-6 singles record that includes a 14-3 mark during the spring campaign (13-3 at the No. 2 position), along with a 22-16 ledger in doubles (10-9 at the top doubles slot).  All told, Klaus has garnered a 35-20 singles record to go with a 34-32 mark in doubles during his time with the Warriors.

HOW IT HAPPENED
DOUBLES
The Warriors claimed two of the three doubles matches to secure the doubles point.

In the No. 2 doubles slot, George Day (Southampton, United Kingdom / Peter Symonds College) and Thomas Mathys (Grimisuat, Switzerland / ECCG - Martigny) defeated Demille Scarabello and Abhay Singh 6-3.

Benjamin Hill (Düren, North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany / Burgau-Gymnasium) and Tom Wasner (Altenholz, Germany / Friedrichsort Community School) posted a 6-3 win as well, besting Lluc Mascaro Sierra and Chakib Madcur.

Klaus and Harry Forsyth (Wamberal, New South Wales, Australia / The McDonald College [Mississippi College]) fell in the top doubles position 6-2 to Juan Caicedo and Justus Peters.

SINGLES
Day carried his doubles success into singles, triumphing 6-1, 6-1 over Caicedo in the No. 1 slight.

In the No. 2 singles position, Klaus once more had a strong outing, trouncing Peters 6-0, 6-1.

Sophomore Wasner, once again in the No. 3 position, downed Jules Rumeau 6-3, 6-4.

Freshman Mathys kept his impressive rookie season going as he dazzled in the No. 4 slot, defeating Scarabello 6-0, 6-2.

Hill turned heads at the No. 5 singles slot, as the junior downed Madcur 6-0, 6-4.

Forsyth dropped the first set to Mascaro Sierra 7-6 (10-12) in the sixth singles position, but rallied back to win 6-2, 10-5 in the second and third sets.
