Men's Tennis Falls 5-2 at Grand Valley State

ALLENDALE, Mich. -- The No. 18-ranked Wayne State University men's tennis team (12-8, 4-1 GLIAC) fell 5-2 at No. 44-ranked Grand Valley State University (10-5, 4-1 GLIAC) on Friday at the GVSU Tennis Courts.

HOW IT HAPPENED
DOUBLES
The Lakers captured two match wins to secure the doubles point, besting the Warriors at the No. 1 and No. 2 positions.

At the No. 3 doubles slot, Benjamin Hill (Düren, North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany / Burgau-Gymnasium) and Tom Wasner (Altenholz, Germany / Friedrichsort Community School) handled business, defeating GVSU's Andreu Martin and Jorge Ruiz 6-4.

Luis Klaus (Brühl, Germany / Archbishop's St. Ursula gymnasium [TH Köln]) and Harry Forsyth (Wamberal, New South Wales, Australia / The McDonald College [Mississippi College]) stumbled at the top flight, as the pairing was bested 6-2 by Bora Bakici and Patricio Sepulveda.

In the third doubles position, George Day (Southampton, United Kingdom / Peter Symonds College) and Thomas Mathys (Grimisuat, Switzerland / ECCG - Martigny) battled with Stephen Claassen and Lawrence Ivanov, eventually falling 7-6 (7-2).

SINGLES
At the No. 5 singles slot, Hill won his fourth-straight match, besting Lawrence Ivanov 7-6 (7-4), 6-4.

Forsyth nabbed a 6-4, 3-6, 10-6 win at the No. 6 singles spot over GVSU's Andreu Martin.

Day and Bakici met in the No. 1 singles position, with the GVSU student-athlete prevailing 6-4, 7-5,

In the No. 2 slot, Klaus fell 6-3, 6-3 to Grand Valley State's Ruiz.

Wasner saw action against Axel Le Ho in the No. 3 singles flight, falling 6-2, 6-4.

Freshman Mathys went back-and-forth with Sepulveda in the No. 4 singles position, but was bested 7-6, 7-6.

NEXT UP
The Warriors will have another tough road match tomorrow, as the squad will face No. 26-ranked Ferris State.
