Softball To Conclude Road Swing With Sunday Doubleheader At Parkside

DETROIT -- The Wayne State University softball team (14-19 overall, 6-8 GLIAC) will conclude its six-game road trip with a doubleheader on Sunday at Wisconsin-Parkside.  First pitch is slated for Noon (Central Time).  The Rangers enter today's twinbill with Saginaw Valley State at 13-21 overall and 4-8 in the GLIAC.  WSU has split its first two doubleheaders (7-4 and 5-7 at Purdue Northwest, and 5-0, 1-11 at Roosevelt) of this road trip.

SERIES HISTORY
The Warriors evened the all-time series with Parkside at 29-29 with a 3-2, 1-0 sweep in Detroit on March 28th.  Wayne State is 4-6 in games played in Kenosha, along with a 1-1 mark in Parkside "home" games played at the Rosemont Dome in 2022.

LEADING THE WARRIORS
Sophomore Elly Koopman (Hudsonville, Mich.), who currently leads the squad with 11 multiple-hit affairs, has an active nine-game on-base streak (11-for-23 with four walks).  Koopman has four multiple-hit games during the streak, and is 6-for-10 over the last three games.  Freshman Ellery Garver (Weidman, Mich. / Mount Pleasant Sacred Heart) is 6-for-15 with three RBI over the last four contests.

Junior Sydney Long (Grand Blanc, Mich.) is 4-1 in her last five starts in the circle totaling 36 innings pitched.  She has 33 strikeouts to six walks, while allowing just 10 earned runs for a 1.94 ERA.  In her last eight games batting, Long is 8-for-18 with two doubles, a triple and three RBI.

This year's squad, under the direction of fifth-year head coach Nicole Tines, has the second-highest fielding percentage (.968) in program history behind the .971 of the 2016 team.

LEADING THE RANGERS
Parkside's offense begins with two-time GLIAC Player of the Year Mia Johnson, who is hitting .479 (46-for-96) with 39 walks for a .630 on-base percentage.  Johnson has 17 doubles, two triples and 10 home runs for 1.010 slugging percentage.

Isabel Aranda (31-for-96, .323) and Ava Swain (30-for-97, .309) are both hitting over .300 for 10th-year head coach Kristin Ortman.

Both Holly Lowenberg (6-6, 2.87 ERA, 51 SO) and Casey Jo Vermett (7-5, 3.68 ERA, 119 SO) have thrown at least 83 innings this season.
