Men's Tennis Defeated 4-3 by Ferris State in GLIAC Tournament Finals

MIDLAND, Mich. -- The No. 3-seeded Wayne State University men's tennis team (14-10 overall), fell in a hard-fought 4-3 battle with No. 1-seeded Ferris State University (17-3 overall) in the GLIAC Tournament Finals on Saturday.

HOW IT HAPPENED
DOUBLES
The Warriors surrendered the doubles point to the Bulldogs, falling in two-of-three matches.

At the No. 1 doubles flight, Harry Forsyth (Wamberal, New South Wales, Australia / The McDonald College [Mississippi College]) and Luis Klaus (Brühl, Germany / Archbishop's St. Ursula gymnasium [TH Köln]) fell 6-2 to FSU's Erik Kovacs and Adrian Catahan.

Benjamin Hill (Düren, North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany / Burgau-Gymnasium) and Tom Wasner (Altenholz, Germany / Friedrichsort Community School) competed at the third doubles flight, falling 6-2 to Milo Leuenberger and Kacper Pasielak.

George Day (Southampton, United Kingdom / Peter Symonds College) and Thomas Mathys (Grimisuat, Switzerland / ECCG - Martigny) were trailing Felipe Iser and Kevin Kovacs 5-3 in the No. 3 doubles position, before the match went unfinished.

SINGLES
In the No. 6 singles position, redshirt-freshman Forsyth collected a 7-5, 6-3 win over Andrew Vincler to knot the contest at 1-1.

Freshman Mathys battled with Praneel Pichika in the fourth singles slot, falling 6-4, 6-2 to make it 2-1 in favor of the top-seeded Bulldogs.

Klaus dropped a 6-2, 6-2 decision to Jose Perez in the second singles position, pushing FSU's advantage to 3-1.

WSU student-athlete Wasner made it 3-2 after besting Iser 7-5, 6-4 in the third spot.  Wasner battled back from disadvantages in both sets.

Junior Hill made it 3-3 after fighting for a 7-5, 7-6 win against Catahan in a match that was back-and-forth the whole way through.

At the top flight, Day opened with a 7-5 triumph over GLIAC Player of the Year Kevin Kovacs in the first round.  The FSU student-athlete responded with a 6-2 win in the third, forcing a third set at the No. 1 position with the GLIAC Tournament title on the line.  The two traded blows, with Kovacs eventually posting a 6-4 win.  

UP NEXT
The NCAA will announce the selections for the 2026 NCAA Men's Tennis National Tournament on Monday, May 4, at 8:00 PM.  The first round of the NCAA Midwest Regional is scheduled for Friday, May 8.
