Women's Outdoor Track & Field Heads To GVSU For GLIAC Championships

DETROIT -- The Wayne State University women's outdoor track and field team will be participating in the 2026 GLIAC Championships this Wednesday, Thursday and Friday. The three-day event will be hosted by Grand Valley State University.

Four of the heptathlon events (100 hurdles, high jump, shot put and 200m dash) will take place on Wednesday. Thursday (April 30) events include the remaining heptathlon events (long jump, javelin, and 800m run), along with prelims of the 1,500m run, 100m hurdles, 400m dash, 100m dash, 800m run, 400m hurdles, 200m dash, and the finals of the steeplechase, 10K, javelin, hammer and long jump. On May 1, the events will be the 4x100m relay, 1,500m run, 100m hurdles, 400m dash, 100m dash, 800m run, 400m hurdles, 200m dash, %k, 4x400m relay, discus, high jump, shot put and triple jump.

WSU has competed in the last 12 GLIAC Outdoor Track and Field Championships (2013-19, and 2021-25, since no championships in 2020/COVID). The Warriors have placed third each of the last three seasons after a runner-up finish in 2022 when Wayne State posted a school record 139.5 points. The day one record for WSU is 47 points (2023), while the day two record is 105.5 points (2024).
