WSU Athletics Ranks Among The Top Schools Nationally In Community Service Hours

DETROIT -- The Wayne State University Department of Athletics ranked 35th nationally among all NCAA Division II institutions in terms of community service hours for the 2025-26 academic year according to Helper Helper.

"Our student-athletes continue to demonstrate what it means to lead beyond competition," said WSU Director of Athletics Erika Wallace.  "Their commitment to serving others reflects the values of Wayne State University and the culture we are building within our department.  I'm incredibly proud of the way they represent our institution with a genuine desire to make a difference.

WSU was the fourth-ranked school in the Midwest Region among the listing of the top 45 institutions nationally behind UIndy (#12), Walsh (#14) and Kentucky Wesleyan (#17).

Six WSU teams finished in the top-10 nationally in their respective sports.

The men's tennis program was No. 1 in their sport and fifth nationally when combining all men's teams.

WSU's women's cross country and track & field team ranked second nationally in terms of hours giving back to the community.

The men's cross country program placed fifth nationally among schools, including those that sponsor track and field, and thus would have more team members.

Women's swimming and diving ranked seventh marking the sixth straight year the programs was in the top-seven nationally.

The men's swimming and diving program was 10th nationally marking the sixth consecutive year in the top 10.

In terms of "Wild Card" sports, the WSU women's fencing program ranked sixth nationally.

WSU student-athletes have spent over 149,000 hours in the Metro Detroit community making a difference and improving lives since 2007.
