Men's Cross Country Breaks Program Record With 16 Academic All-GLIAC Recipients

Eleven (11) excellence honorees breaks previous school record of 10.

DETROIT -- The Wayne State University men's cross country squad had 16 members recognized with Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) All-Academic accolades.  The 16 honorees breaks the program record for the most in one year and marks the seventh consecutive campaign that WSU has had at least 10 recipients.  The men's cross country team has had 89 student-athletes garner GLIAC All-Academic honors over the last seven years.

Criteria states that student-athlete must be an active member on their respective sport roster at the end of the season, and not a true freshman or a first-year transfer student.

The 11 student-athletes receiving All-Academic Excellence Team accolades for maintaining a cumulative grade-point average of at least 3.5 were redshirt sophomore Griffin Conway (Novi, Mich.), graduate student Eli DiCerbo (Clinton Township, Mich. / Fraser [MMSTC]), redshirt junior Adam Hafeli (Lake Orion, Mich.), junior Brady Heron (Northville, Mich.), sophomore Sam Martini (Casnova, Mich. / Kent City), redshirt junior Kenny Minto (Davison, Mich.), redshirt freshman Ethan Muraszewski (Shelby Township, Mich. / Utica), redshirt junior Ty Nagy (Commerce Township, Mich. / White Lake Lakeland), sophomore Sean Pettis (Fremont, Mich.), redshirt sophomore Seth Pianga (Livonia, Mich. / Churchill), and junior Jared Platt (White Lake, Mich. / Lakeland).

DiCerbo (master's in Statistics - 4.00) made it four straight years as an honoree on the All-Academic Excellence Team, while Hafeli (Special Education - 3.94) and Nagy (Exercise & Sport Science - 3.85) both were listed for the third straight season.  Included for back-to-back seasons (two straight years) were Conway (Exercise & Sport Science - 3.84), Heron (Accounting - 3.68), Pianga (Mechanical Engineering - 3.69), and Platt (Exercise & Sport Science - 3.75).  Minto (Sport Management - 3.54) made the jump this season to the All-Academic Excellence Team after being on the All-Academic Team in 2025.  Martini (Civil Engineering - 3.92), Muraszewski (Marketing - 3.61), and Pettis (Information Technology - 4.00) all garnered their first recognitions.

The five student-athletes earning All-Academic Team accolades for maintaining a cumulative grade-point average of 3.0-3.49 were redshirt sophomore Parks Allen (Ithaca, Mich.), redshirt freshman Ian Lewis (Livonia, Mich. / Churchill), redshirt sophomore Ethan Pruzinsky (Troy, Mich. / Auburn Hills Avondale), redshirt sophomore Gabe Trevino (Saginaw, Mich. / Heritage), and senior Anthony Vinson (Macomb, Mich. / Utica Eisenhower).

Vinson (Finance - 3.46) was on the team for a third straight season, while Trevino (Biomedical Engineering - 3.09) was included for a second consecutive year.  Pruzinsky (Exercise & Sport Science - 3.34) was on the All-Academic Team for the first time after being on the All-Academic Excellence Team last season.  Both Allen (Information Technology - 3.07) and Lewis (Mechanical Engineering - 3.43) were honored for the first time in their respective careers.

The men's cross country team as a whole had a strong Winter 2026 semester in the classroom, with five achieving a perfect 4.0 term GPA.  The cumulative GPA for the team this past semester was 3.554, and thirteen (13) student-athletes were on the Athletic Director's Honor Roll for a term GPA of 3.5 or better.
