WSU Football - 2026 Quarterbacks Preview

DETROIT -- Over the next six weeks, we will be previewing each position on the 2026 Wayne State University football team with each position coach highlighting their respective units.  This segment is the quarterbacks preview with new offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach Donny Moore along with former Warrior Brady Beedon.

The Warrior quarterback room will have many new faces in 2026 with two returnees (plus one injured signal caller), four true freshmen and at least two transfers.

Redshirt sophomore Carson Creehan (Madison, Ala. / Madison Academy [North Alabama / Coffeyville C.C.]) appeared in two games (Ferris State and Davenport) in 2025 and passed for 34 yards on five-of-nine with two interceptions.  He missed the final four games of last season with an injury.  Creehan had previously played for Coffeyville Community College in 2024 (three games before a season-ending injury), and redshirted at North Alabama in 2023.  In the spring game this past April, Creehan completed 18-of-28 passes for 325 yards and five touchdowns.

The other healthy returning quarterback is senior Miekael Brooker (Saginaw, Mich. / Saginaw [Monterey Peninsula C.C.]).  He appeared in two contests in 2025 with three rushing attempts for five yards and one incompletion.  Brooker, who passed for 111 yards and one touchdown in last April's spring game, played in 19 games over two seasons (2023 and 2024) at Monterey Peninsula (Community) College, where he rushed for nearly 500 yards and eight touchdowns, while passing for over 550 yards and eight touchdowns.

Redshirt freshman Dylan Kress (Aurora, Ont. / St. Andrew's College Prep) will miss the 2026 campaign after undergoing surgery this past spring.  He played in three games in 2025 (Grand Valley State, Roosevelt and Northern Michigan).  Kress passed for 273 yards and three touchdowns on 31-of-61 with eight interceptions.  He also rushed for 16 yards, including a long of 17 yards at Roosevelt.

The four true freshmen are Nikkos Davis (Grosse Pointe, Mich. / Macomb Dakota), Dale Johnson (Sandusky, Ohio), Torrence Searcy (Romulus, Mich.) and Brody Thompson (Lake Orion, Mich.).

Davis (6-2, 190) earned All-Macomb Area Conference Red Division recognition as well as Honorable Mention All-Macomb County honors.

Johnson (6-5, 205) was a multi-sport athlete for the Blue Streaks.

Searcy (6-3, 180) was named to the Detroit Free Press Honorable Mention All-State team.

Thompson (5-11, 170) only played five games in 2025 due to an injury.

The two transfers are redshirt junior Ethan Lane (Chandler, Ariz. / Basha [Central Michigan]) and graduate student Eric Franklin (Zion, Ill. / Zion-Benton [North Central College]).

Lane (6-2, 205) spent the last three seasons with the CMU Chippewas making two appearances in 2025 against Wagner and Massachusetts.

Franklin (5-10, 189) began his collegiate career at North Central College in 2021.

Wayne State begins fall practice on Monday, August 10th with the players reporting the weekend prior.  The home and season opener will take place on Thursday, Sept. 3 with a 6 p.m. kickoff against the Northwood Timberwolves.  Both season and single-game tickets are available by clicking here.
