Daniel Grey Named Athletics Business and Fiscal Operations Coordinator

DETROIT -- Former Wayne State University tennis standout Daniel Grey, who was both an All-American on the court (ITA) and also in the classroom (CSC), has been named Athletics Business and Fiscal Operations Coordinator.

"As a former student-athlete, graduate assistant coach, and business office student assistant, Daniel Grey knows Wayne State Athletics from many perspectives and has consistently demonstrated a commitment to excellence, process improvement, and operational efficiencies," remarked Sausha Kellogg, WSU Senior Associate Athletic Director/Business and Fiscal Operations.  "His dedication to our department and university, combined with his operational knowledge and collaborative approach, make him a great fit for this role.  We are excited to welcome him as our new Athletics Business and Fiscal Operations Coordinator and look forward to the contributions he will make in this new role."

Grey has spent the last two years as a graduate assistant coach with Bryan Morrow's men's tennis squad following an outstanding playing career.  He played in 115 singles and 140 doubles matches across four seasons, with an 86-29 singles record along with a 104-36 doubles mark.  Grey ranks second in program history in singles wins for a career (86) and was the all-time leader in doubles wins for a career (104), until Cedric Drenth broke the mark during the 2024-25 school year.

The 2023-24 WSU Male Student-Athlete of the Year, Grey was also a two-time (2022-23 and 2023-24) recipient of the GLIAC Commissioner's Award for outstanding athletic and academic achievement.  He garnered College Sports Communicators (CSC, formerly CoSIDA) First Team Academic All-American distinction in 2024 after earning CSC Second Team Academic All-American honors as a junior.

A three-year recipient of the D2 ADA Academic Achievement Award, Grey was on the GLIAC All-Academic Excellence Team all three years eligible.  He received ITA Scholar-Athlete honors all four years.

Grey was voted the 2024 GLIAC Player of the Year by the league's head coaches.  He was also the recipient of the inaugural GLIAC Sportsmanship Award in men's tennis in 2024.  

Academically, Grey was named to the Athletic Director's Honor Roll (term GPA 3.5+) all eight semesters, including four 4.0 terms.  He was a member of the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) and also the WSU Student-Athlete Leadership Council.  After earning his bachelor's degree in Neuroscience Honors, Grey graduated this past May with a master's of Science degree in Finance.
