LANSING, Mich. -- The Wayne State University mens's cross country squad finished second at the Lansing Community College Stars Invitational on Friday afternoon at Grand Woods Park. The Warriors finished with 35 points, but were outpaced by first-place Lansing Community College's 33 points.

Lucas Ames (Oxford, Mich. [Mott C.C.]) was the top overall runner with a time of 26:17.7. The Warriors raced 10 men, three of which placed in the top 10.

Our guys went after it today, and overall it was a solid performance. Lansing won the past two national championships in their division, and they always run well on their home course. Definitely a breakthrough run for Lucas in taking the win. He made a good move halfway through the race and build a lead so he couldn't be caught. Gabe competed hard and ran pretty well, Ishaan had a strong finish catching several guys in the last stretch, and it was very nice race for Jack as our fifth scorer today. We need to continue working hard, and keep progressing toward the bigger meets coming up. If this team gets to championship season healthy and with everyone clicking, we can really suprise some people."
