2011-12:  Competed in eight meets … posted exhibition times in the 50 freestyle (21.83), 100 freestyle (48.03) and 100 butterfly (51.37) at the GLIAC Championships … top times for the season in the 100 freestyle (47.86), 200 freestyle (1:48.21) and 100 backstroke (56.24; relay leadoff) at the Eastern Michigan Invitational.

2010-11: Finished 14th in the 50 freestyle (21.55) and 16th in both the 100 butterfly (52.76) and the 100 freestyle (48.23) at the GLIAC Championships … participated in nine meets … top time in the 100 freestyle (47.90) at the Kenyon Total Performance Invitational.

High School: A 2010 graduate of Anchor Bay … earned four varsity letters under coach Steve Leopardi … was a two-time all-state, all-county and MVP selection … won four county championships (200 freestyle, 100 butterfly, 200 free relay, 400 free relay) in 2010 and was selected swimmer of the meet … set a school record in the 50 freestyle and placed fifth at states … was a two-time team captain.

Shields … born in Chesterfield … son of Jim and Kelly Shields … has an older brother, Justin, a former WSU swimmer and nine-time All-American (2006-10) …is a criminal justice major ... named to the Coach's Honor Roll (term gpa 3.0-3.49) for Winter 2011, Fall 2011 and Winter 2012.
