Lyse Bates joined the Wayne State University Athletic Department as the Sports Information & Media Relations graduate assistant in July of 2026. She is currently pursuing a master’s degree in Sports Administration.
Bates earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in communication with a minor in journalism from Oakland University, where she was a four-year member of the Golden Grizzlies volleyball team and served as a team captain for two seasons.
During her collegiate career, Bates earned College Sports Communicators (CSC) Academic All-District honors, was named Horizon League Player of the Week during her senior season and was selected to the Oakland University President’s List following four consecutive semesters.
Bates also served as a sports communications intern with the Oakland University Athletic Department.
Bates is a native of Kalamazoo, Mich., and graduated from Portage Northern High School in the spring of 2022.
