Mike Horn, a five-time GLIAC Coach of the Year (2003-04, 2006-07, 2009-10, 2012-13, 2024-25) and a three-time GCAA Division II Regional Coach of the Year (2006-07, 2008-09 and 2019-20), began his 25th season as Wayne State University's golf coach in the fall of 2025.

He has led the Warriors to the NCAA Super Regional in 17 of the last 21 years, including eight straight at one point (2007-14).

In total, Horn's players have collected 69 All-GLIAC awards and 16 All-Region honors.  Ryan Johnson (2007-Second Team), Joe Juszczyk (2008-Honorable Mention & 2010-Second Team), Steve Cuzzort (2009-First Team), and Brendan Seys (2020-Second Team) each earned All-America status.

Ryan Johnson was a two-time GLIAC Men's Golf Athlete of the Year (2004-05 and 2006-07) as well as the 2004 league champion, while Cuzzort was the 2008-09 GLIAC Men's Golfer of the Year and the 2008 GLIAC Medalist.  Eric Johnson was the 2012-13 GLIAC Men's Golf Athlete of the Year with Seys earning the 2019-20 GLIAC Golfer of the Year award.

The Warriors advanced to the NCAA Super Regionals for the seventh time in the last eight seasons the tournament was held (not counting 2020 due to COVID) in 2025.  After finishing second in the stroke play portion of the GLIAC Championships in 2024, WSU won the 2025 GLIAC Championship Tournament.  Led by two graduate students and three seniors in the Medal Match Play finals, the third-seeded Warriors ousted fourth-seeded Saginaw Valley State, 4-1.

The 2024-25 squad featured six All-GLIAC honorees (two on each team) including Josh DiCarlo and Max Leppelmeier on the First Team, and Tyler Hurtubise and Luc Warnock on the Second Team, while Andrew Daily and Ian Smith garnered Honorable Mention accolades.

Wayne State qualified for the NCAA Super Regionals in 2022 and was led by five All-GLIAC performers including All-Region selection Sean Niles.  Joining Niles on the All-GLIAC First Team was Garret Day, while Josh DiCarlo, Mat Hawryluk and Matt Pelak each received Second Team All-GLIAC recognition.

Horn guided Grant Haefner to the NCAA Super Regional in 2020-21 as an individual and a First Team All-GLIAC selection.  Sean Niles and Matt Pelak collected All-GLIAC Second Team accolades.

In 2017-18, Horn led WSU to one of its best seasons in the last 20 years as the Warriors won five events and qualified for the NCAA Tournament for the second straight season as the fourth seed from the Midwest Region.  He helped lead Brendan Seys to First Team All-GLIAC and PING All-Midwest Region accolades, while Kyle Rybicki and Grant Haefner both collected Second Team All-GLIAC recognition.

In 2016-17, he guided the Warriors back to the NCAA Tournament for the first time since 2014.  He coached Seys to GLIAC Freshman of the Year and Second Team All-GLIAC honors.  In addition, redshirt senior Jordan Andrus collected Second Team accolades.  WSU finished 40th in the final DII GCAA Coaches Poll.

In 2015-16, he helped Crawford McKinlay to a Second Team All-GLIAC selection.  WSU won the Motor City Invitational (Oct. 18-19, 2015) with a 623 (308, 315), and tied-for-fourth at the fourth Midwest Regional with a 607 (310, 297).

He helped Jordan Andrus to an Honorable Mention All-GLIAC selection during the 2014-15 academic year.  The team tied for first at the LTU Invitational (Sept.22) and won the Motor City Invitational (Oct. 4-5).  The Warriors finished second at the GLIAC North Invitational (Sept. 20-21), fifth at the SVSU Fall Invitational (Sept. 13-14) and fifth at the GLIAC Championships (Oct. 10-12).

In 2013-14, Horn helped guide Jordan Andrus to GLIAC Freshman of the Year and Honorable Mention All-GLIAC honors, while Tyler LaSerra was a Second Team All-GLIAC selection and Alex LaSerra was named to the league's Honorable Mention team.  Coach Horn led the squad to three team titles including the LSSU Invitational and BGSU John Piper Intercollegiate in the fall and a Midwest Regional title to end the regular season in Noblesville, Ind.

In 2013, Horn tutored senior Eric Johnson to GLIAC Golfer of the Year honors.  Johnson was inducted into the WSU Athletic Hall of Fame in 2019.  Newcomer Tyler LaSerra earned GLIAC Freshman of the Year accolades.

Horn guided the 2010-11 squad to a second-place finish at the GLIAC Championship and seventh place in the NCAA Super Regional.  Eric Johnson went on to represent WSU at the NCAA Championship as an individual.

Wayne State qualified for the NCAA Championship for the first time in program history as a team in 2009 after winning the Super Regional title.  The Warriors finished in a tie-for-13th at nationals, while senior Steve Cuzzort - the 2008 GLIAC Champion and 2009 Super Regional medalist - placed in a tie-for-fifth individually.  The squad returned to the NCAA Championship the following season (2009-10) and finished 14th after a runner-up finish at the Super Regional.  The 2009-10 squad was led by First Team All-GLIAC selection Joe Juszczyk, along with Second Team honorees Eric Johnson and Aaron Peterson.  Jack Mitroka earned Honorable Mention All-GLIAC recognition.

The 2007-08 season saw four golfers earn All-GLIAC recognition (Ryan Johson-First Team, Brett Hudson-Second Team, Bryan Lynch and Joe Juszczyk-Honorable Mention) and two garner PING/GCAA All-Region honors.  In addition, Super Regional medalist Joe Juszczyk became the first WSU golfer to qualify for nationals since Horn in 1986.

Ryan Johnson was a four-time First Team All-GLIAC selection (2003-04, 2004-05, 2006-07 and 2007-08), the first under coach Horn, along with Joe Wilson in 2005-06.  The first All-GLIAC honoree mentored by Horn was Jacob Abramson, who received Second Team All-GLIAC recognition in both 2002-03 and 2003-04.

During the 2003-04 campaign, Horn led the Warriors to a fourth-place finish at the NCAA Super Regional, the school's first team appearance in the NCAA's, and the program's first conference title since 1947 (Mid-American Conference).  The following season, he guided the squad to what was its best finish at the Super Regional in school history until 2009.

Horn is no stranger to WSU.  He attended the University for five years and was a two-time All-GLIAC selection on the golf team.  He was named to the Division II District IV All-American squad in 1986 and participated in the NCAA Division II championship tournament.  The 1985 GLIAC Champion, Horn was a six-time medalist during his collegiate career.

Horn received his bachelor's degree from Wayne State in Marketing/Business Management in 1986.  A 2001 inductee into the Wayne State University Athletic Hall of Fame, he served as co-captain as a sophomore, and captain his junior and senior seasons.  In 1986, Horn earned GLIAC Scholar-Athlete accolades.
