BEMIDJI, Minn. - The Wayne State women's hockey team (2-3-2) surrendered three second-period goals to Bemidji State (2-6-1) as the Beavers defeated the Warriors,
3-1, on Friday night at Glas Fieldhouse.
Freshman
Julie Hebert's (Chelmsford, Ont./Aurora Jr. Panthers) third goal of the season at 5:19 of the final period spoiled the shutout bid for BSU netminder Zuzana Tomcikova, who compiled 31 saves for her second win of the year.
The Warriors, who have played to scoreless first periods in six of their seven games this season, allowed tallies to MacKenzie Thurston, Erin Johnson, and Franny Dorr in the second stanza.
Johnson's goal, which came on a 5-on-3 situation, was her fourth power-play goal of the year, putting her in a tie for the national lead.
Dorr's marker with 14 seconds left in the period made it a 3-0 game until Hebert lit the lamp with assists from
Lauren Ragen (Grosse Ile, Mich./Connecticut Polar Bears) and
Julie Ingratta (Markham, Ont./North American Hockey Academy).
Delayne Brian (Winnipeg, Man./Notre Dame Hounds) stopped 21 shots but suffered her first loss of the year (2-1-2).
Wayne State and Bemidji State will wrap up the weekend series Saturday at 2:07 p.m. CT.
