Rolla, Mo. – 12 three-pointers by Wayne State was not enough on Saturday as Missouri S&T won a closely contested game
68-62. Senior guard

Wayne State's first half was defined by the three-pointer; whenever the Warriors needed one the shot always seemed to find the bottom of the net. To start the game it was Kouri and Thomas hitting three-balls to tie the score at 3-3 and 8-8 respectively. Later in the half Smith connected on a shot from distance to stop an 8-2 run with Kouri hitting her second triple of the half less than two minutes later to even the score at 18-18.
Even
Chelsea Davis got into the act with a three-pointer of her own with another shot from distance by Bowers coming one possession later. Bowers would then hit her second three of the half to pull the Warriors within one point (30-29). A turnaround jumper by
Chelsea Davis gave WSU its first lead of the game at 31-30 before a three-pointer by Missouri S&T gave the Lady Miners a 33-31 lead at the break.
Bowers led all Warriors with eight points in the first half and moved into second place all-time in WSU history with 147 three-pointers in a career. In just seven minutes of action in the opening half,
Amelia Davis recorded four rebounds and three assists. Smith also had two steals in her first start with Wayne State.
Bowers and
Chelsea Davis kept Wayne State alive in the second half by scoring all 12 of the team's points through the first 11:20 of the half as Missouri S&T took a 51-43 lead into the second media timeout with 8:40 remaining in the game.
After the Lady Miners opened up a 13-point lead (57-44), Kouri sparked the WSU offense by scoring nine of Wayne State's next 10 points to pull WSU within six points at 60-54 with 2:00 left to play. However, that would be as close as Warriors would get as both teams traded baskets with the Lady Miners taking the 68-62 win.
Bowers was named to the All-Tournament team at the conclusion of the game.
Halee Parks led the way for Missouri S&T with 16 points.
The Warriors will return home to take on Northern Kentucky next Saturday (Nov. 28) at 2 p.m.
