YPSILANTI, Mich. - The Wayne State men's swimming and diving team came out on the losing end of its final dual meet of the season,
168-127, at Eastern Michigan on Friday night at Jones Natatorium.
The Eagles clinched the victory after 14 events despite six individual victories for the Warriors. In his first meet as a Warrior,
Andrey Seryy (Saint-Petersburg, Russia) made NCAA “B” qualifiers in both the 50 free (20.84) and the 100 free (46.34).
Joaquin Abascal Gallegos (Madrid, Spain) also won two individual events, improving his prior “A” cut in the 200 breaststroke (2:02.73) and taking first in the 100 breaststroke (57.18).
Others finishing in first place were
Nathan Hesche (Jackson, Mich.) in the 100 backstroke (52.56) and
Oskar Nordstrand (Stockholm, Sweden) in the 500 free (4:41.69). Hesche also came in second in the 200 back (1:56.37), as did Nordstrand in the 200 free (1:45.16).
The 200 medley relay of
Cauli Bedran (Rio de Janeiro, Brazil), Abascal Gallegos,
Justin Shields (Chesterfield, Mich./Anchor Bay) and Seryy posted a second-place time of 1:34.47.
In diving,
Cayce Bolt (Sterling Hts., Mich./Warren Mott) came in second on the one-meter board (305.11) and fifth in the three-meter competition (258.52).
Wayne State will host the 2010 GLIAC Championships at the Matthaei Aquatic Center beginning Wednesday, Feb. 10.
