BOSTON -- The Wayne State University women's hockey team (2-3-0 overall) suffered a
7-2 setback Friday night at sixth-ranked Boston University (3-1-0 overall).
After holding the host Terriers scoreless for the first 13 minutes of the contest, WSU allowed a short-handed goal and a power-play marker 72 seconds apart to fall behind 2-0.
Lauren Ragen tallied her second goal of the year just 47 seconds after BU's second marker.
Boston University would keep the red light parade going with two goals in the final 2:15 of the first period. Marie-Philip Poulin, who started the scoring with a man-down marker, completed the opening stanza with an even-strength goal.
BU held a 25-5 shots on goal advantage in the first 20 minutes.
Wayne State's
Alyssa Baldin cut the deficit to two with WSU's second unassisted goal of the evening at the 11:17 mark of the middle period. It was Baldin's second goal of the season.
Poulin would complete the hat trick just over four minutes later. BU out-shot the Warriors 10-4 in the second stanza.
Poulin, on the power play, and Tara Watchorn would net goals in the third period for the Terriers to complete the scoring.
WSU starting netminder
Delayne Brian made 35 saves on 42 shots in 52:07 between the pipes.
Lisa Marshall, in her collegiate debut, turned aside the only shot she faced in the final 7:53. Kerrin Sperry was credited with 14 saves between the pipes for Boston University.
Wayne State went 0-for-9 on the power play, while BU scored three times in five man-advantage opportunities.
The teams complete the weekend set with a 2 p.m. face-off on Saturday at BU's Walter Brown Arena.
