HAMILTON, N.Y. - Junior defenseman
Jill Szandzik (Warren, Mich./Little Caesars) tied a school record with four assists, and junior
Delayne Brian (Winnipeg, Man./Notre Dame Hounds) made 31 saves for her second shutout of the season as the Wayne State University women's hockey team (3-4-0) defeated Colgate University (2-3-0),
4-0, on Friday night at Starr Rink.
Szandzik became the fourth Warrior with four assists in a game and the first since Lindsay DiPietro, who did it twice in her career – most recently on Jan. 25, 2008 at Robert Morris.
Brian, who made 15 of her 31 saves in the second period, held the Raiders to 0-for-5 on power plays and earned her sixth career shutout.
Wayne State went 3-for-8 with a skater advantage.
Alyssa Baldin (Mississauga, Ont./Mississauga Jr. Chiefs) and
Gina Buquet (Lafayette, La./Ohio Flames) each had a power-play goal and an assist.
Julie Hebert (Chelmsford, Ont./Aurora Jr. Panthers) opened the scoring 4:31 into the contest with her first goal of the season from Szandzik and
Julie Ingratta (Markham, Ont./North American Hockey Academy), who notched her team-high seventh point of the year.
Lauren Ragen's (Grosse Ile, Mich./Connecticut Polar Bears) third tally of the season came at 2:02 of the second period, with assists from
Cari Coen (Manhattan Beach, Calif./L.A. Selects) and Szandzik.
Baldin and Buquet scored nearly eight minutes apart in the third, as the Warriors won their third straight over the Raiders dating back to last season.
Wayne State and Colgate will wrap up the weekend series Saturday at 2:00 p.m.
