DETROIT - The Wayne State University volleyball team (9-11, 7-6 GLIAC) played on its home court at the Matthaei for the first time in three weeks, but lost a
3-2 result to Tiffin University (11-10, 7-4 GLIAC) on Friday night, WSU's fifth straight defeat.
The Dragons, who had lost all six prior meetings with the Warriors dating back to 1997, recovered from a 2-1 deficit to take the final two sets (21-25, 25-20, 18-25, 25-22, 15-11) and snap their four-match skid on Dig For The Cure Night at the Matthaei.
Katarzyna Sak (Warren, Mich./Cousino) finished with a career-high 23 kills, the most by a Warrior since Miranda Robison racked up 23 kills on Oct. 27, 2006 at Gannon. Sak also chipped in four service aces.
Posting double-doubles were
Cydney Biessel (Ruby, Mich./Yale), her fifth of the season,
Madie Kent (Grosse Pointe Woods, Mich./Grosse Pointe North), her fourth of the year, and
Maureen MacDonald (White Lake, Mich./Marian), her third.
Biessel collected 54 assists, three shy of her career-best, and a career-high 17 digs. Kent totaled 10 kills and 13 digs, while MacDonald set a career-high with 17 kills to go with 13 digs.
Kent also had four service aces, and
Lindsey Graciak (Westland, Mich./Livonia Churchill) had a pair as well as a career-best 31 digs. Graciak is the first Warrior to exceed 30 digs since Mayssa Bazzi collected 36 on Oct. 7, 2007 against Lake Superior State.
Wayne State will host Ohio Dominican on Sunday at 2:00 p.m. Four of WSU's six remaining regular-season matches are in Detroit.
