DETROIT - The Wayne State University volleyball team (14-11, 12-6 GLIAC) won its fifth straight match on Friday night, a
3-0 victory over Michigan Tech (5-19, 3-14 GLIAC) at the Matthaei.
Earning their seventh three-set win of the year, the Warriors swept the Huskies by scores of 25-19, 25-15, and 25-23, clinching an overall winning record this season in the process.
Katarzyna Sak (Warren, Mich./Cousino) hit .609 with 16 kills, three blocks and five service aces.
Maureen MacDonald (White Lake, Mich./Marian) had 10 kills and four blocks, while
Madie Kent (Grosse Pointe Woods, Mich./Grosse Pointe North) finished with eight kills and nine digs.
Michigan Tech won the first point of the match but trailed for the remainder of the opening set, as Wayne State led by as many as nine points in a 25-19 result.
Coming out of a timeout with the score tied at 10-10 in the second set, Wayne State went on a 15-5 run to take a 2-0 overall lead. Sak and MacDonald totaled four kills each.
Three points or less separated the two teams in the third set, which resulted in a 25-23 triumph for the Warriors. Sak had three blocks and seven of her 16 kills in the final set.
Cydney Biessel (Ruby, Mich./Yale) collected 32 assists and seven digs.
Lindsey Graciak (Westland, Mich./Livonia Churchill) led all players with 17 digs.
Wayne State will wrap up the regular season Saturday against 19th-ranked Northern Michigan at 4:00 p.m.
