Men’s Tennis Blanks Indianapolis 9-0 For Second Straight Win

Indianapolis, Ind.- The Wayne State men's tennis team picked up its second win in 48 hours Friday night by defeating Indianapolis 9-0 for the team's first shutout of the season. WSU is now 2-1 this year with both of its victories being key regional wins.

Wayne State was able to start the match with comfortable 3-0 lead thanks to the Warrior doubles pairings of Bertrand Moulin / Britton Steele, Thomas Ducret / Eric Szydlowski and Kevin Turnbull / Oscar Gamarra all finding ways to win.

Moulin and Steele earned an 8-2 victory over Indy's David Schoch and Taylor Broda while Ducret and Szydlowski rebounded from their loss on Thursday to defeat Jeff Price and Steffen Good 8-4.

The No. 3 doubles duo of Ducret and Gamarra also came away with an 8-4 win over Werner Henning and Alex Poe.

The Warriors found more success in singles action as Moulin and Steele earned their first wins since this past fall's ITA Midwest Regional tournament at No. 1 and No. 2 singles 6-2, 6-3 and 1-6, 7-5, 10-6 respectively. Steele's come-from behind win was the closest match of the night.

WSU's freshmen trio all had impressive victories in singles competition as well. Ducret won his No. 3 singles match 6-1, 6-2, Gamarra kept his perfect record alive thanks to a 6-1, 6-3 win in the fourth flight and Jon Groszek also earned his second victory in as many matches at the sixth position 6-0, 6-4.

Senior Roberto Gomez also got in on the action with a 6-0, 6-3 victory for WSU.

The Warriors will be looking for their third consecutive win as they conclude their weekend tomorrow against Bellarmine at 10 a.m.
