GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. -- The Wayne State University men's tennis team turned in a strong performance at the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Midwest Regional Championships, hosted by Davenport from Saturday through Monday, Oct. 17-19.

George Day (Southampton, United Kingdom / Peter Symonds College) also advanced to the flight A singles final after winning five consecutive matches.Â
Day qualified for the 2026 ITA Division II Singles & Doubles Championships based on his finish in the flight A singles draw at the ITA Midwest Regional. After winning five consecutive matches, he advanced to the final before falling to Ferris State's Kevin Kovacs (6-3, 6-3). The national championships are scheduled for Nov. 4-8 at the Tuscaloosa Tennis Center in Tuscaloosa, Ala.Â

QUOTING HEAD COACH BRYAN MORROW
"Overall, I am really proud of the guys and it was an exciting tournament for us. George is on his way to Alabama as he qualified for Nationals after a loss in the Flight A Singles Final. We are super proud of him. He competed great all weekend long and I am really proud of his growth and leadership. Benny and Harry won the B Draw Doubles and looked very good during competition. I am looking forward to getting back to work and am excited for the year to come."
