Orlando, Fla. – After being rained out for two consecutive days, the Wayne State men's tennis team was finally able to get a game in on Saturday. The Warriors improved their record to 4-2 overall after defeating Birmingham-Southern
7-2.
The WSU men picked up three points in doubles competition.
The No. 1 team of
Bertrand Moulin (SO, 5-9, Lyon, France) and
Britton Steele (GR, 5-11, Novi, Mich./Detroit Catholic Central) defeated Michael Locandro and Will Freeman 8-5.
After an 8-4 win by
Eric Szydlowski (JR, 5-10, Canton, Mich./Canton) and
Thomas Ducret (FR, 5-10, Paris, France), the Warriors' No. 3 team of
Oscar Gamarra (FR, 5-7, Guayaquil, Ecuador/Unidad Educativa Javier) and
Kevin Turnbull (SR, 6-3, Shelby Twp., Mich./Warren De La Salle) bested Birmingham-Southern 8-6.
Wayne State kept its momentum going in singles competition with Moulin taking down Locandro 4-6, 7-5, 7-6.
WSU also claimed wins in third, fifth and sixth singles as Ducret, Szydlowski and
Roberto Gomez (SR, 6-0, Comitan Chiapas, Mexico/Preparaforia del Estado de Comitan) were all victorious.
Birmingham-Southern's John Zukley and Reed Pilling defeated Steele and Gamarra in second and fourth singles respectively for their only points of the day.
Wayne State will get a day off day on Sunday before heading back into action against Hastings College on Monday at 7:00 p.m.
