The following year (2004), he was selected GLIAC Special Teams Player of the Week after making
game-tying extra point and game-winning field goal (season-long 35 yards) in overtime at Indianapolis.

Gundesen made a school-record 32 consecutive extra point attempts and also scored on a two-point conversion (rush) at Gannon.

He finished his senior season with 17 punts inside the 20, while his 76 punts was one attempt shy of single-season school record.  His career punting average of 36.32 is sixth all-time at WSU.

He served as a student assistant coach working with the WSU kickers in both 2005 and 2006, helping David Chudzinski to All-America honors in 2006.

In 2006, he attended tryout camps for the Chicago Rush (Arena Football League) and the Edmonton Eskimos and Hamilton Tiger-Cats (Canadian Football League).

Gundersen was the place-kicker for the Billings Outlaws of the United Indoor Football League in 2007.
