Former Wayne State University place-kicker Greg Gundersen signed with the Arena Football League's Alabama Vipers this past week.

Gundersen, a 2001 graduate of Lincoln-Way High School in New Lenox, Ill., spent his first two years at Joilet Junior College before transferring to WSU for the 2003-2004 seasons.
In addition to punting 60 times for a 35.1 average as a junior for the Warriors, he made 9-of-16 field goal attempts and 28-of-31 PATs for 55 points to earn honorable mention All-GLIAC accolades. Gundersen connected on a game-winning field goal with 16 seconds left at Northern Michigan. He set the then single-season school record with 20 consecutive PATs.
The following year (2004), he was selected GLIAC Special Teams Player of the Week after making
game-tying extra point and game-winning field goal (season-long 35 yards) in overtime at Indianapolis.
Gundesen made a school-record 32 consecutive extra point attempts and also scored on a two-point conversion (rush) at Gannon.
He finished his senior season with 17 punts inside the 20, while his 76 punts was one attempt shy of single-season school record. His career punting average of 36.32 is sixth all-time at WSU.
He served as a student assistant coach working with the WSU kickers in both 2005 and 2006, helping David Chudzinski to All-America honors in 2006.
In 2006, he attended tryout camps for the Chicago Rush (Arena Football League) and the Edmonton Eskimos and Hamilton Tiger-Cats (Canadian Football League).
Gundersen was the place-kicker for the Billings Outlaws of the United Indoor Football League in 2007.
