INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. - Wayne State University's 2010-11 athletic season officially began Friday afternoon as the WSU volleyball squad played its first match at the University of Indianapolis Invitational, falling
3-0 to the host Greyhounds.
The Warriors (0-1), who had four of their seven freshmen make their collegiate debuts, were faced with an immediate test in the Greyhounds (1-0), who are ranked fourth in the AVCA preseason poll and returned nine letterwinners from a 2009 squad which advanced to the NCAA Elite Eight.

Maureen MacDonald (White Lake, Mich./Lakeland) finished with six kills, while freshmen
Amanda Wetherill (Forest, Ohio/Riverdale) and

Indianapolis never trailed in the first two sets (25-15, 25-12), but Wayne State grabbed a 9-5 lead in the third to force a UI timeout. The Greyhounds battled back to tie it at 16-16 and went on to take a 22-19 lead.
The Warriors tied it at 22-22 and later 24-24 before Indy nabbed the final two deciding points.
Cydney Biessel (Ruby, Mich./Yale) collected 24 assists, and
Lindsey Graciak (Westland, Mich./Livonia Churchill) posted 10 digs as the starting libero.
Wayne State will meet Tusculum at 6:00 p.m. in the second match of the day for both teams. The Pioneers blanked West Virginia State in the opener of the
