Women's Basketball Earns Exhibition Win Over Michigan-Dearborn, 92-50

Four Warriors score in double figures

Detroit, Mich. - The Wayne State University women's basketball team outscored visiting Michigan-Dearborn by 21 points in each half en route to a 92-50 exhibition victory on Tuesday night at the Matthaei.

Junior forward Phaebre Colbert (Grand Rapids, Mich. / Forest Hills Northern) led four Warriors in doubles figures with 15 points (6-of-9 FG, 3-of-4 FT), while junior Deanna Crumpton (East Kentwood, Mich. / East Kentwood) recorded 14 points and was the game's leading rebounder with eight.

Graduate student Stefani Munro (Harrison Twp., Mich. / Mount Clemens) recorded 11 points and four steals and junior guard Paige Sickmiller (Romeo, Mich.) tallied 10 points and added seven boards.

The Warriors shot 48.6 percent (34-of-70) from the field, held a 54-32 rebounding advantage and garnered 21 steals.

U-of-M Dearborn scored the first two buckets of the contest, but WSU rallied, tallying 13 straight points, capped by an offensive rebound and put-back from Crumpton with 15:27 left before halftime. An 11-4 run over the next five minutes prompted WSU to a 24-11 lead with 9:03 remaining.

Following a pair of free throws from U-of-M Dearborn, the Warriors outscored the Wolves, 15-7, to go up 39-20 with 3:38 left. WSU extended its lead by holding a 10-8 advantage the rest of the half.

Out of the break, Wayne State outscored Michigan-Dearborn, 15-2, in the first four minutes to take a commanding 64-30 lead. Over the next nine minutes, the teams played even basketball as the Warriors remained on top with seven minutes to play, 77-43. The hosts closed the contest on a 15-7 run.

The Warriors will host Rochester College for its regular season home opener on Friday at 6:00 p.m. During halftime of the contest, 11 fans will each receive a $25 Warrior merchandise gift certificate.
