Kissimmee, Fla. -- The Wayne State University softball team (1-7 overall) suffered an
8-0 loss to No. 23-Minnesota State (18-3 overall) to conclude day one of the 2011 Rebel Spring Games for WSU.
Maverick pitcher Courtney McKelvogue (9-2) limited the Warriors to four base runners in five innings on three hits and a walk, while striking out three. Kristen Fah struck out two batters in the bottom of sixth.
MSU scored twice in the first, once in the second and twice in the third to take a 5-0 lead after 2 1/2 innings, then added three more in the top of the sixth to complete the run-rule.
Warrior hits were recorded by freshman second baseman
Nikki Fulton (Stratford, Ont. / St. Michael Catholic S.S.), a two-out single in the second; sophomore catcher
Brittany Omelanchuk (Brooklin, Ont. / Wilson S.S.), a one-out single in the fourth; and freshman left fielder
Logan White (Brantford, Ont. / Johnson C.V.I.), a one-out single in the fifth. Sophomore
Makelle Barski (Trenton, Mich. ) and junior
Kristina Susalla (Garden City, Mich.) had back-to-back singles leading off the bottom of the sixth.

Lauren McLaughlin (Oakville, Ont. / Holy Trinity) pitched the first five innings in the circle for Wayne State. McLaughlin (1-2) walked two, while allowing five earned runs on eight hits. White tossed the final inning giving up three runs (one earned) on two hits with a walk and a strikeout in her first collegiate pitching appearance.
WSU will continue Rebel Spring Games play on Sunday with contests against in-region foe Wisconsin-Parkside and Minnesota-Duluth.
