Midland, Mich. - The 37th-ranked Wayne State University men's tennis team (16-6) netted a
5-0 victory over Lake Superior in the first round of the GLIAC Tournament.
Oscar Gamarra (Guayaquil, Ecuador) earned two of the five points, teaming with
Alec Attala (Clinton Twp., Mich.) in the duo's 8-5 victory over Jack Miller and Dane Fosgard in No. 3 doubles.
Gamarra then improved his singles record to 15-6 after defeating Joao Gaberiel-Oliveira in the No. 4 spot, 6-1, 6-2.
Jon Groszek (Dearborn Heights, Mich.) clinched the match, recording a 6-2, 6-2 win over Ryne DuShane in No. 6 singles.
Aman Gill (Windsor, Ont.) and
Melvin Joseph (Northville, Mich.) bested Sergiu Laza and Brandon Clayton, 8-5, in No. 1 singles.
Thomas Ducret (Paris, France) and
Michael FitzGerald (Grosse Ile, Mich.) scored an 8-2 win over Robert Nelson and Travis Toth in No. 2 doubles.
The Warriors are the No. 2 seed and will face No. 3 seed Grand Valley in the semifinals tomorrow at 4:00 p.m. WSU suffered a heartbreaking 5-4 setback to the Lakers on April 3.
