Bowling Green, Ohio -- The Wayne State University men's swimming and diving program recorded a 160-134 victory over Ashland University Friday afternoon in the first dual meet of the year for the Warriors. The meet was held at Bowling Green State University's Cooper Pool.
The 400 medley relay quartet of
Lucas Fernandez Vilanova (Valencia, Spain),
Piotr Jachowicz (Lodz, Poland),
Nathan Hesche (Jackson, Mich.) and
Kristian Larsen (Frederiksberg, Denmark) took first place in a time of 3:26.31 in the first men's event of the meet.
The 1650 free was the next event and WSU had the only three competitors.
Jack Dischler (Macomb, Mich. / Henry Ford II) was first in a time of 17:20.88, while
Jordan Papp (Dearborn, Mich. / Edsel Ford) was second with a time of 17:21.07.
Kris Hector (Shelby Twp., Mich. / Utica Eisenhower) finished third in a time of 17:25.27.
Larsen placed third in the 200 free (1:47.16) with
Jayson Hansen (Grand Blanc, Mich.) finishing fourth (1:49.18). Larsen later placed second in the 100 free (47.15), and third in the 500 free (4:51.54).
Fernandez Vilanova was second in both the 100 back (53.36) and 200 back (1:52.97), with Hesche placing third in the 200 back (1:59.27).
Jachowicz won the 100 breast (57.78) to lead a trio of Warriors in the top four as
Cameron Weaver (Davison, Mich.) placed third (1:01.85), and
Nick Victor was fourth (1:03.50).
Joaquin Abascal Gallegos (Madrid, Spain) claimed first place in the 200 fly (1:56.92) with
Calvin Reder (Bay City, Mich. / John Glenn) finishing third (1:59.65), and
Jon Selden-Treiman (Kalamazoo, Mich. / Portage Northern) finishing fourth (2:04.93).
Later, Jachowicz won the 200 breast (2:09.90), while Abascal Gallegos was second (2:11.04). In the 100 fly, Jachowicz was second (50.79), with Abascal Gallegos winning the 400 IM (4:12.48).
Newcomer
Ivan Udalov (Saint-Petersburg, Russia) was third in the 50 free (21.44).
WSU took the top five places in the one-meter diving competition with
Darrin Driesenga (Holland, Mich. / West Ottawa) claiming first place with a score of 309.83.
Dylan Szegedi (Oregon, Ohio / St. Francis de Sales) was second (307.20), while
Jeff Grant (Belleville, Mich.) finished third (275.18).
Szegedi won the three-meter diving event with a score of 316.75. Driesenga was second (314.25) with
Kevin White (Warren, Mich. / Cousino) placing third (293.70).
The Warriors will compete in a 1 p.m. dual meet tomorrow at Oakland University.
