HILLSDALE, Mich. - The Wayne State University volleyball team (12-4, 7-1 GLIAC) came out on the short end of a five-set result Friday night at Hillsdale College (7-9, 6-2 GLIAC), absorbing its first conference loss of the season in the process.

Wayne State won the first and fourth sets, but Hillsdale snapped WSU's seven-match winning streak with a 15-9 victory in the fifth set.

Candice Ottey (Ajax, Ont.), who hit .306 with 16 kills and three blocks, led three Warriors with double-digit kill totals.  Madie Kent (Grosse Pointe Woods, Mich./Grosse Pointe North) finished with 14 kills and a career-high 28 digs to record her sixth double-double of the year, and Kristen Bulkiewicz (LaSalle, Ont./Sandwich) totaled 10 kills.

Freshmen Kelsey Bonewits (Griffith, Ind.) and Essence Jackson-Jones (Muskegon, Mich.), two of the top three blockers in the GLIAC and among the top 15 in NCAA Division II, combined for 13 blocks as well as 13 kills.

Trailing 9-4 in the opening set, Wayne State came back to tie it at 11-11 and took its first lead of the set at 19-18.  Ottey totaled seven of her 16 kills as the Warriors took the set, 27-25.

Hillsdale won the next two sets (25-23, 25-19), but Wayne State came back in the fourth set, during which they never trailed and triumphed, 25-15.

The Chargers jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the final set and led for the duration, a 15-9 result.

Cydney Biessel (Ruby, Mich./Yale) collected 50 assists, her 10th career 50-plus performance, and chipped in seven digs, three blocks and three kills.  Lindsey Graciak (Westland, Mich./Livonia Churchill) finished with 27 digs, giving her 1,268 for her career and moving her into fourth place all-time at Wayne State.

Others contributing to the defensive effort were Carlee Hunt (Waterford, Mich./Walled Lake Northern) with 17 digs and Jessica DeLeeuw (Harrison Twp., Mich./L'Anse Creuse) who had 12 digs.

Wayne State will meet Northwood, the only team still without a loss in GLIAC play, on Saturday at 4:00 in Midland.
