DETROIT – The Wayne State University men's swimming and diving team took 10 of 13 events Friday on its way to a 159-77 dual victory over Calvin College in its home pool.
The WSU men's squad kicked the meet off by taking first and second in the 200 medley relay. The WSU quartet of
Nathan Hesche (Jackson, Mich./Jackson),
Piotr Jachowicz (Lodz, Poland),
Joaquin Abascal Gallegos (Madrid, Spain) and
Kristian Larsen (Frederiksberg, Denmark) won the 200 medley relay in a time of 1:34.16.
Three of the four WSU winning relay members also earned individual wins. Larsen earned a victory as he swam to a win in the 200 free (1:43.69). Jachowicz won the 400 individual medley in a time of 4:01.40 and Hesche swam to the win in the 100 butterfly in a time of 52.14.
Other individual winners for the Warriors were
Eric Gensheimer (Farmington, Mich./Farmington) earned in the 50 free (22.25),
Jack Dischler (Macomb, Mich./Henry Ford II) in the 500 free (4:58.09),
Lucas Fernandez Vilanova (Valencia, Spain) in the 100 back (52.27) and
Cameron Fryzel (Auburn, Mich./Bay City Western) in the 100 free (48.57).
Wayne State was also dominate on the diving platform as the Warriors took the top three spots in each event.
Dylan Szegedi (Oregon, Ohio) won both the 1-meter diving (301.05 points) and 3-meter diving (311.93 points) competitions.
Darrin Driesenga (Holland, Mich./West Ottawa) finished in second place in both diving events for WSU. Driesenga had 294.75 points in the 1-meter competition and 296.63 points in the 3-meter contest.
Wayne State returns to the pool Friday and Saturday, Nov. 16-17 when the Warriors travel to the Ashland Invitational in Ashland, Ohio.
