Game Preview: Men's Basketball Hosts Undefeated Drury

Warriors ride five-game winning streak into Saturday's matchup against No. 19 Drury

GAME 7 STORYLINES
Wayne State enters its matchup against Drury on a five-game winning streak. The Warriors haven't dropped a contest since their season-opening loss at No. 4 Bellarmine. The matchup against Drury is the last non-conference game of the season for Wayne State.
    
WSU has reached the 80-point plateau in its last four contests, all conference games, and has won those games by an average of 20.5 points per game.
    
Wayne State is among the leaders in Division II in a couple statistical categories. WSU is ranked 15th in the nation by averaging just 11.7 turnovers per game and is 27th in blocked shots per game (4.5).

ALL-TIME SERIES
WSU was victorious in its only previous contest against Drury, winning a 61-51 road matchup on Nov. 26, 2011.

HOME COOKING
The Warriors are 3-0 at home to start the 2012-13 season. Wayne State has won its last two home games by a combined total of 52 points. WSU is 90-42 all-time at home under head coach David Greer, including a 26-4 mark since the beginning of the 2010-11 season.

IN THE RANKINGS
Drury earned a No. 19 ranking in the most recent NABC Division II men's basketball top 25 poll, released on Dec. 11. WSU is also receiving votes and is currently up one spot in the poll from last week, at No. 34.

SCOUTING DRURY
The Panthers have won all six of their games, all home contests, to start the 2012-13 season. Drury has won each game by a 29-point margin and the Panthers are averaging 87.5 points per game. DU has also eclipsed the 80-point plateau in five of its six games.
    
The last time Drury started its season 6-0 was in 2009-10, when the Panthers finished 23-7 overall.
    
Senior guard Alex Hall set a school-record with nine three-pointers made on his way to 33 points in Drury's last contest and earned Great Lakes Valley Conference Player of the Week honors. Hall has made 25-of-44 three-point attempts through six games. Hall is making 61.4 percent of his shots and has made all 15 free throws.
    
Fellow senior guard Brandon Lockhart is first in country in steals per game at 4.83.

WEEKLY ACCOLADES
Junior guard Mike Hollingsworth was named GLIAC North Player of the Week on Monday, Dec. 10 following his performance in wins over Ashland and Lake Erie. For the week, Hollingsworth averaged 18.5 points, 4.5 rebounds and 4.0 assists while shooting 68 percent (15-of-22) from the field. He scored 23 points vs. Lake Erie.
    
It marked the second straight week that a Warrior was recognized as GLIAC North Player of the Week after Chene Phillips was selected the previous week.
 
ON THE BENCH
David Greer is currently in his 12th season as men's basketball head coach at WSU. Greer has a 172-139 record and is the fifth-longest tenured head coach in WSU men's basketball history.
    
Steve Hesser owns a 170-71 record as the men's basketball head coach at Drury University. Hesser is in his ninth season at the helm of the Panthers.

Replays of the Wayne State-Ashland men's basketball contest are being shown on Xfinity Channel 900 on Comcast. Replay times are scheduled for 6 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 16 and 8 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 22.
