Wayne State Men's Tennis Defeats Tiffin 8-1

Warriors Sweep Dragons at Doubles; Win Five of Six Singles

DETROIT, Mich. -- Weather and on-campus events forced the WSU men's tennis team to play indoors at Peachtree Tennis Club on Saturday afternoon, but the Warriors were unphased and posted an 8-1 victory over visiting Tiffin.

Junior Oscar Gamarra (Guayaquil, Ecuador/Unidad Educativa Javier) and senior Matt Fisher (Shelby Twp., Mich./Eisenhower) teamed up at third doubles and defeated the Tiffin duo of Brian Coffman and Andres Torres to complete the Warriors sweep of all three doubles flights from the Dragons.

Sophomores Michael FitzGerald (Grosse Ile, Mich.) and Melvin Joseph (Northville, Mich.) posted 6-1, 6-2 victories at third and fourth singles, respectively. Gamarra had a similar tally (6-2, 6-1)  at fifth singles.

The Warriors will be back on the WSU campus playing against Northwood on Wednesday for a potential share of the regular season GLIAC title.
