ALLENDALE, Mich. -- Sophomore
Piotr Jachowicz won three individual events and swam a leg of the winning 400 medley relay team, but the Wayne State University men's swimming and diving team fell 165-135 on Saturday at Grand Valley State University.
Jachowicz (Lodz, Poland) won the 100 breaststroke in a time of 55.71, finished first in the 50 freestyle in a time of 21.32 and also was victorious in the 100 butterfly with a time of 50.83.
WSU had four other individual victories. Junior
Kristian Larsen (Frederiksberg, Denmark) picked up the victory in the 1000 freestyle, touching the wall in a time of 9:40.93.
Senior
Joaquin Abascal Gallegos (Madrid, Spain) won the 200 breaststroke by over four seconds, finishing with a time of 2:10.74. He also finished in thid in the 200 butterfly (1:57.07).
The Warriors won both diving competitions. Junior
Darrin Driesenga (Holland, Mich. / West Ottawa) won the 3-meter event with 301.65 points. Sophomore
Dylan Szegedi (Oregon, Ohio / St. Francis de Sales) earned a victory in the 1-meter event, winning with a score of 320.63 points.
Wayne State also finished in first place in the 400 medley relay. The quartet of sophomore

Nathan Hesche (Jackson, Mich. / Jackson) and sophomore
Kyle Taylor (Holland, Mich. / Holland) won with a time of 3:26.64.
Hesche finished in second in the 100 backstroke (52.96) and third in the 200 backstroke (1:56.64). Fernandez Vilanova earned a second-place spot in the 200 backstroke (1:55.71) and touched the wall in third place in the 100 backstroke (53.77).
Taylor also finished in third place in the 200 freestyle with a time of 1:45.88.
Senior
Cameron Weaver (Davison, Mich. / Davison) touched the wall in second in the 200 breaststroke (2:15.11) and finished in fourth in the 100 breaststroke (1:01.60).
Wayne State's top team in the 400 freestyle was the team of Larsen, Taylor, Fernandez Vilanova and freshman
Eric Gensheimer (Farmington, Mich. / Farmington) which finished in third at 3:12.71.
