Houghton, Mich. -- The Wayne State University women's basketball squad (9-5 overall, 7-3 GLIAC) suffered just its second setback in the last nine contests falling 77-56 at Michigan Tech (10-5 overall, 8-3 GLIAC) Thursday evening.

The Warriors scored the first four points of the game and led 7-2 following the first of two early triples by freshman guard Brittany Streetman (Warren, Mich./Lincoln).  Her second three-pointer gave WSU a 14-10 lead about seven minutes into the game.

Wayne State senior center Juanita Cochran (Saginaw, Mich./Arthur Hill), who had four points and a pair of offensive rebounds in the early going, went to the bench near the mid-point of the first half with the Warriors leading 19-15 after picking up her second foul.

WSU maintained its lead for the next four minutes until a triple by MTU's Mackenzie Perttu knotted the game at 23 with six minutes left before intermission.  The three-pointer ignited a 16-4 run by the Huskies to end the opening 20 minutes.  The Warriors were just 2-of-9 from the floor in the final minutes and trailed 36-27 at the break.

Perttu tallied four points in the first minute of the second half pushing the Michigan Tech lead to 13 (40-27).  MTU's Sam Hoyt added a pair of foul shots before senior Talisha Bridges (Kalamazoo, Mich./Loy Norrix) ended the Huskie run by scoring from inside on back-to-back possessions.  However, the 13-point deficit (42-39) would be as close as the Warriors would get in the second half.

Cochran notched her second double-double of the season with team-high totals of 14 points and 12 rebounds.  Sophomore forward Kayla Bridges (Canton, Mich.) added 13 points off the bench on 5-of-5 shooting from the floor.  Talisha Bridges garnered 12 points.

WSU was out-rebounded 38-27, marking just the second time this year that the Warriors had lost the battle of the boards.

Perrtu totaled game-best marks of 20 points and 13 rebounds, with Hoyt adding 19 points.

Michigan Tech held a 15-8 advantage in second-chance points along with a 22-13 edge in points off turnovers.

Wayne State continues its U.P. road trip with a 1 p.m. game on Saturday at Northern Michigan's Berry Events Center.
