Softball Splits on Final Day of Rebel Spring Games

Boehler tosses two-hit shutout.

Kissimmee, Fla. -- The Wayne State University softball team (8-10 overall) concluded its spring break trip on Saturday with a split.  WSU lost the opener, 6-4, to LIU Post, but rebounded for a 3-0 triumph over Lees-McRae.

In game one, the Warriors took a 3-0 lead in the bottom of the first as Emily Bryce smacked a three-run shot to left field after Nikki Fulton and Logan White had singles.

The Pioneers scored five times in the top of the second on five hits and two Warrior errors.

Wayne State pulled within 5-4 in the fourth but left two runners on base following an RBI single by Gabby Williams which plated Catherine Rayos who had started the rally with a two-out.  Amanda Burnard singled between Rayos and Williams, to move Rayos into scoring position.

LIU Post added an insurance run in the seventh on a walk, a sacrifice bunt and a single.

Briana Lee (2-6) took the loss giving up six runs (three earned) on nine hits in seven innings.

White had three of WSU's 10 hits, while Fulton and Burnard each had multiple-hit games.

A day after tossing the first perfect game in school history, freshman hurler Mackenzie Boehler faced just 25 Bobcat batters in game two on Saturday.

She struck out four and allowed two hits with no walks to improve her record to 5-2.

Stephanie Foreman had an RBI double in the top of the first, then started a two-run rally in the fourth with a leadoff single.

Bryce followed with a base hit, before a sacrifice bunt by Jade McGarr advanced both runners.  An infield single by Lee loaded the bases and Rayos delivered a two-run double.

Foreman and Rayos each had two hits in the contest.

The Warriors are scheduled to being league play this weekend with doubleheaders at Walsh (Saturday) and Lake Erie (Sunday).
