Men's Tennis Holds Off SNHU

ORLANDO, FL - The Wayne State men's tennis team (3-2) was a 6-3 winner against Southern New Hampshire University (7-3, 3-0 Conf.) on Thursday in Orland, Florida.

The Warriors battled back from a pair of losses in the top flight in both doubles and singles with a strong performance by the bottom half of the lineup. "The bottom half was very strong today, they really bailed us out especially considering the injury to Fazyl", said Coach Bryan Morrow following the match.

Mohamed Fazyl Kechai (Paris, France / Martin Luther King) was forced to retire in the third set of his #2 singles match with cramps giving SNHU their third point of the day.  Fazyl picked up a point earlier at second doubles with partner Michael FitzGerald (Grosse Ile, Mich. / Grosse Ile) 8-4. Trey Keating (Troy, Mich. / Troy) and Jason Chen (Rochester Hills, Mich. / Rochester Adams) teamed up to take the final doubles point in the third flight.

Thomas Ducret (Paris, France) needed a tie break in the first set of his third singles match before taking the second set 6-0. FitzGerald was a 6-2, 6-2 winner in the fourth flight while Melvin Joseph (Northville, Mich. / Northville ) and Jon Groszek (Dearborn Heights, Mich. / Divine Child) were easy winners at fifth and sixth singles respectively.
