DETROIT -- Wayne State baseball (19-10, 10-4) will play three games in Ohio this week beginning with a single nine-inning game at Urbana (15-11, 4-4 GMAC) on Tuesday at 3 p.m. followed by a Wednesday doubleheader at Findlay (11-15, 5-10) beginning at 2 p.m. The Warriors are tied for first place atop the GLIAC standings and have won six straight contests.

SERIES STORYLINES
The Wayne State baseball team (19-10, 10-4) will attempt to push its winning streak past six games with a game at Urbana on Tuesday and two games with Findlay on Wednesday. The Blue Knights are 15-11 overall this season and are coming off a series victory with Travecca Nazarene, where they won three of four. The Warriors won the first ever meeting last season with Urbana, 9-1, in the Armstrong Atlantic Savannah Invitational in Savannah, Ga. Findlay is 11-15 on the season and dropped a series with Walsh this past weekend. Wayne State leads the all-time series with Findlay, 35-20.
AT THE HELM
Ryan Kelley, who served six seasons on the Warriors' staff including three as WSU's pitching coach prior to being named head coach in September 2008, is in his fifth year at the helm in the 2013 season. Kelley is the ninth head coach in the 72-year history of the Wayne State University baseball program. In 2011, the Warriors set a school record for wins (35) and advanced to the championship game of the NCAA Midwest Regional for the second time in program history. Wayne State won 34 games in 2012, qualifying for the GLIAC Tournament for the eighth time in nine years, and for the NCAA Regional for the third straight year.
GLIAC OPENERS
Wayne State has won its last three series to open conference play the past three seasons following the series win at Walsh (March 23-24). In 2012, the Warriors took three of four from Findlay including a 12-1 victory. In 2011, WSU swept the Oilers in a four-game series including another 12-1 thrashing. Dating back to 2003, Wayne State has won seven of the 11 conference opening series, split three and lost just one.
ZIMMERMAN'S DOZEN
In the series finale with Malone, sophomore
Kyle Zimmerman, went 8.0 innings and struck out a career-high 12 Pioneers. It was the most Ks for a Wayne State pitcher since Brady Cooper's 12-strikeout performance at Tiffin on April 18, 2010.
SCOUTING URBANA
The Blue Knights are led by Drew Ryan who is hitting .414 and has driven in 23 runs. Drew is also 20-for-25 in stolen base attempts this season. Greg Liming is hitting .364 while Robert Tavone, Jr. is at . 341. Liming leads the squad with five home runs. As a team, Urbana is hitting .296. The rotation is topped by Thomas Piatt who is 5-1 with a 3.25 ERA. Justin Robinson is 2-2 with a 2.13 ERA and leads the team with 37 strikeouts. Head coach Mike Goldschmidt is in his fifth season leading the program.
SCOUTING FINDLAY
Tommy Roush leads the team and is third in the GLIAC with a .384 batting average and 29 RBI, which is second in the league. Reid Rothenbuhler is hitting .366 while Blake Schmenk is at .344. As a team, Findlay is hitting .282. Alex Williams has made 10 appearances and leads the team with a 2.53 ERA and two saves. A trio of Oilers have made five starts on the season. Preston Zachrich is 1-1 with a 3.03 ERA, Drew Hargrove is 2-1 with a 5.34 ERA and Ethan James is 1-4 with a 5.90 ERA. Head coach Troy Berry is in his 10th season with the program.
RUNS GALORE
Over the last six games, Wayne State has scored 48 runs (8.0 per game) including an 18-run explosion at Northwood on Sunday. The 18 runs were the most runs in a game this season and most since Feb. 26, 2011 against Queens (24). The Warriors rank third in the GLIAC with 179 runs this season. In addition, Wayne State leads the conference with a .415 on-base percentage.
PIERSE ON POINT
Senior starter,
Alex Pierse, has won his last three starts to improve to 4-1 on the year. In those three starts, Pierse has tossed 20.0 innings, allowed just one run and struck out 17 batters. His last two starts have been his second and third career complete game shutouts. He has dropped his ERA to 1.25, which is the lowest in the GLIAC.

During its trip to Florida, Wayne State baseball partnered with the Westgate Foundation and was again able to help out the Ocoee, Fla. Little League with a instructional camp. This has become an annual event and Coach

WAYNE STATE'S REGIONAL HISTORY
Wayne State has played in the NCAA Regional three straight years and five times overall, qualifying for the first time in school history in 2005. The Warriors advanced to the championship game of the 2008 tournament in Crestwood, Ill., losing a 3-0 result to Ashland in the third meeting of the tournament between the two schools. This past season, WSU went 0-2 with losses to Northern Kentucky and No. 15 Indianapolis. The Warriors went 0-2 in the 2010 regional, including a 2-1 loss to Northern Kentucky in the opening round. Last year Wayne State recovered from an opening round loss to Grand Valley State by eliminating three consecutive GLVC foes, including NKU, to force a rematch with GVSU in the title game in Normal, Ill.
Over its five NCAA Regional appearances, Wayne State has a 6-10 record.
