Swimming & Diving to Visit Findlay For Dual Meet

The Warriors are coming off victories over Grand Valley last Saturday

DETROIT -- The Wayne State University swimming and diving teams return to the pool Friday, visiting the Sink Natatorium and GLIAC foe Findlay for a 6 p.m. meet.

Both Warrior squads are coming off Senior Day victories over rival Grand Valley on Saturday. The WSU women's team won 11 of the 16 events and earned a 178-122 triumph, while the men picked up its first dual meet victory in four years over the Lakers, winning 153-147.

WSU junior Gloria Martinez Perez (Merida, Spain) won three individual events against the Lakers, while junior Kristina Novichenko (Seversk, Russia) and senior Carol Azambuja (Sao Paulo, Brazil) each earned two individual wins for the Warriors against GVSU.

Junior diver Dylan Szegedi (Oregon, Ohio / St. Francis de Sales) won both the one-meter and three-meter springboard. He had a 60-point winning cushion in each competition. The Warriors swept the top three spots in each diving competition. Freshman Soren Holm (Rodovre, Denmark) also earned two individual victories Saturday, and earned an NCAA "B" cut qualifying standard in the 100 butterfly (48.86).

WSU is in the home stretch of the regular season schedule prior to the 2014 GLIAC Championships, where both Warrior squads will look to defend their titles. Following its meet against Findlay, Wayne State has one more full meet (at Eastern Michigan - Jan. 24) before the conference meet from Feb. 12-15.
